    The Other Secret Garden

Many of you know of Nancy Forester's "Secret Garden" in Key West. However there is another secret garden tucked deep into the Lower Keys. And no this is not the garden that I refer to as "Judy's Jungle". I am privileged to help take care of this garden during the summer. The owner of this...

    Funky Shady Lane

Down in the Keys our Shady Lane is doing some strange things with the leaves. We hope that it continues to do this. I thought that I would post a few pictures of it.

    Pot planting

Bren, I know your idea with the pots can be done. Several years ago Judy and I visited a friend in Houston, Texas. He invited us over for a "garden party". We got to his house and in his back yard he had many very tropical palms including the Red Sealing Wax and many Licualas. I had to blink...

    What is this?

This is a croton that Judy got years ago (10 years) in Ft. Myers. The plant in Ft. Myers died, but the plant in the Keys is doing well. We don't have a clue what this is. Folks what is this?

These are a few shots of the Compte de Germiny in the Keys. In the second and third picture are some of the gang that I employ to keep my bugs in check:)

    Feeding

Judy and I also use the Miracle-Gro (water soluable / blue box) for azaleas. In the Keys we start to fertilize about mid February and will do so about every other week until November or December. In Ft. Myers we will wait until the night time temperature are above sixty degrees. We have about...

I'll show you mine, now show me yours Part 6

Moose, this is a picture of Judy's Sweet Marie in the Keys. Down there it grows like a weed...in Ft. Myers not so good. I am going to try to talk her into puting on an airlayer for the meeting.

    Freckles

These are two pictures of Judy's Freckles in Fort Myers. Judy was given this plant years ago from Bob Halgrim when he was a patient of hers. In fact it was Bob Halgrim who infected Judy with this Croton sickness. There are a few leaves with ruffles, but not many. Most of them have smooth...

Croton Society Meeting Saturday, May 14th

Unless we are both in the hospital with broken legs, Judy and I will be there. I can't think of a more perfect site for a croton meeting. For thoes of you who have never been to Mike's garden, you are in for a special treat. Not only is the garden a fantastic slice a paradise that Mike has...

    looking for id

I just thought that I would post a picture of our Flamingo in the Keys. The plant that Borgy has is the top of this very same photo.

    Name Needed

The photo is from the parent plant in the D. R. We don't think that it is Tiger Eye, because we do have a Tiger Eye in the Keys and they are very different. The Tiger Eye has much more orange spotting.

    Name Needed

The arm indead is that of Jeff Searle. Jeff brought back a few four inch sticks of this plant. I think that the plant that we have is the only one of the bunch that made it. This weekend, I'll post a picture of the offspring. Perhaps that might help with an ID.

    Name Needed

I threw this out a few years ago and it "stumped the band". Since we have a lot of new blood on the forum, I thought that I would try again. The gentleman holding this leaf brought a few of these back from the Dominican Republic. Judy and I were fortunate to get one to live and it is doing...

Who Wants to be the Moderator?

Dean, myself and Judy want to thank you for all of the work that you have put into our forum both in the past and that which you will continue to do in the future. You are one of the best "cat herders" that I have seen:) You continue to provide a great engine/vehicle for us to share our...

    The Meeting Unknowns

Dean, I know Scott Mcintosh and have read many of his post for several years. Scott is a true gentleman and Croton lover. It appears that this was not an issue until recent events.

    Air layering in December??

I think that Searle is going soft on us. Hack thoes crotons and make December air layers. Here is a picture of air layers dated December 20th. They were cut after 30 days. Oh, I forgot; these were at the Southern Command.
