Something has been bothering me ...

Am I the only one wondering why the thief is taking one plant at a time? Why would anyone risk coming back multiple times and only taking one plant? And why wouldn't they just take the whole plant?

Another brief cold snap heading our way, weather up North looks ugly!!

I've setup a wind break with my truck tarp and some bungee cords. That's the north side of the house. In the foreground, is a ceramic space heater that will run all night tonight and tomorrow night. All the Thai Crotons and Diffenbachia are off camera to the right. They're up against the house...

I'll be in Jamaica, but if I've got anything worth selling, I'll send it with Randy.

Hate to See Them Go To Waste

I gave them two Uncarina grandiddieri in 15-gallon cans, 8' tall. They let them die. I'll never go to that zoo again.

Hate to See Them Go To Waste

Screw the zoo. They fired Scott for no reason. They never thanked us for the Crotons and most of them ended up in the trash after Scott was gone.

Hate to See Them Go To Waste

Whatever Randy doesn't sell or take to his temporary digs will probably end up here at the last minute. I don't have much room left, but none of his plants are going into the trash. No worries, mate.

    Walk to the front door

All Crotons tend to grow and get leggy without branching unless you cut them. This Ram's Horn has been chopped several times. Usually for cuttings that go into the mistbed, but twice where scale had so badly infected the plant that major chunks of it just went into the trash.

    Look What I Found ...

Shove a skewer through it and roast it over an open fire. I'll bet they're tasty.

    Walk to the front door

Anna - it's just another plant. I'll pot up all the airlayers and sell them at some Croton gathering in the future. I've already promised the best of the batch to Randy for his new garden. I cut off two large pieces that were blocking the hanging pot and threw them in the trash a couple of weeks...

    Walk to the front door

Mike, I'm going to airlayer all the long stuff on that Ram's Horn in the spring. It's blocking the window. Probably going to reduce the plant by half.

    Mammy,Mammy,my dear sweet old Mammy...

My first 3 Crotons. Planted July 1998. All three have been cut back to within 6" of the soil at least twice. The last two are on the north side of the garden, fully exposed to the cold north wind.

    A Magnificent Sport

Originally 3 three-gallon plants, 3 to a pot. Planted at the base of a massive rubber tree. Northeast corner of the garden. The sport is now two years old.

    I Don't Understand ...

Bogoriensis is not at all cold hardy. I've had several of mine defoliate from a cold snap. Good time to cut it back.

Lamar - you've been "crotoned-out". Take a deep breath and step away from the Crotons.
