I have heard it both ways - mosquitos will breed in bromeliads, and mosquitos do not breed in bromeliads. Does anyone know for sure? If mosquitos breed in palms and bananas, in the area where the leaf attaches to the trunk, why wouldn't they breed in bromeliads? I'm guessing the answer, as...

Thanks for the pic Jeff. My mapus have grown maybe a foot taller in 12 years (now 1 1/2 feet tall). So, I can appreciate the age of that one.

Yep - that's a Queen Palm

Aroids and Palms - my two favorite plant groups. I'm always envious that you guys have such a show every year. If it wasn't such a distance, I would be there. So, I hope there will be someone who will share some pics of the nicest specimens and/or anything rare or new.

It's great to see palms, that I always assumed need lots of water and the deep soil of rain forests, in a somewhat dry and less hospitable environment. It's a lesson that palms are tenacious and many don't need the coddling care we tend to give them. :)

Wow - fantastic photos - and welcome to Tropiscape. As Scott mentioned, habitat photos of mature palms are a real treat. Living in Thailand, I'm sure you have others, don't hesitate to share - and I'm sure Ed will use some on Palmpedia, with your permission?

Good Job Stan - goes to show that sometimes you shouldn't listen to what you hear. If nobody ever pushed the envelope think of what we would never have found out about growing tropicals outside the tropics.
