    Croton event ??

He was at Jeff's on the first Saturday when I went down this spring. He gave me some good advice as did Judy on what I should be buying. I was equally surprised to see him as it had been a while. I thought maybe he had disappeared to some Indonesian island to study crotons in the wild until he...

    Davis 87 nice new flush

Like most of your crotons, mine can't come close to those colors. You have some incredible specimens.

    Croton event ??

No Moose sightings, luckily I had a chance to see him at Jeff's Spring Sale. I think he only comes out of hiding once every few years.

    Missing Exotica

Marie is responsible for me really getting serious about collecting crotons. She would be the first person I would go to if I was trying to find a hard to get cultivar and she knew where every plant was on her property. I don't know the stories behind all of the rare crotons, but know many of my...

    Missing Exotica

Sorry to hear that it is missing. Having visited you a few times, it seems like they would need to be pretty familiar with how your crotons are set up to be able to find it and take it without being noticed. I think I would get lost in your beautiful maze of plants. If I remember correctly the...

    Hi from Russia!

Welcome to the croton forum. Those are beautiful specimens of both plants, amazing that you were able to get them looking so good indoors. When I lived in a colder part of the country I did not even know what a croton was, now that I live in Florida I can't get enough of them. Thanks for sharing...

Can you group crotons species to grow together?

Usually when you get a pot of a croton variety that was propagated by cuttings there are three in the pot. There is certainly no reason you couldn't do the same thing with three different varieties. You would need to take into consideration the growth rate of each, light requirements, etc. I...

Well I guess that won't be a very effective propagation method. Will be interesting to see how long the single leave stays alive, although it will be kind of useless since it will never grow into a new plant. I have no interest at trying my hands at tissue culture, I picture that being done in a...

    This happened...

Keep us posted. I will be curious to see if either of these develop into a new plant. I know this is not unusual with herbaceous plants, but not with woody plants. Granted I don't know exactly how the process of tissue culture works. It is cool to see the roots developing right out of the...

    Happy Easter

I hope everyone has a wonderful and peaceful Easter. Wish there was a croton named for the day so I could add a photo. Thanks again for the tour and auction by both Mikes, so nice to see everyone again. I also wish the tours/visits were not just twice a year, so I could see more amazing gardens...

    Croton event ??

If you ever are coming near Vero, please let me know so I can share a bunch of plants for you to start creating the new gardens. I am sure I could fill up your car with cuttings and divisions of interesting shade plants.

    Croton event ??

Mike, Thanks for the opportunity to visit your gardens. The crotons are spectacular. If you really do decide that you are going to rip out some of those beautiful little seedlings that are 5 years old, please let me know as I will happily come down and rescue them. I don't care how small they...

    Croton event ??

Melanie, I am glad you found one you really liked. I think you probably have similar taste to me when it comes to the Hawaiian cordylines, many of the ones I got had the large lettuce like leaves. I have another really nice one called Strawberry Sundae that I was going to cut, but never got to...

    Croton event ??

Pix, All of the plants went to good homes. There was quite a crowd there. The few that were left over are going to find a spot in Mike's 5 acres. Sorry you did not get the addresses in time to go, there were quite a few crotons that went for very reasonable prices. I did not have much to spend...

    Croton event ??

Randy, I will go out and grab a few philodendrons this morning for you. Many took a beating from the cold winter and are just starting to push some new growth, but their are a few that look good and are ready to go.

    Croton event ??

Great, I was hoping someone could use them. That is one advantage of them, they don't need or even want water. The only time they have not done well for me is when I put them in an area that gets too much water. I have them in conditions from deep shade to full sun. Most are in part sun.

    Croton event ??

Pix, I got the addresses of where we are going for the auction when I sent Mike a PM. I have Monday off from school next week, the rest of the week I don't usually get home from school until after 5. If you can't make it to the auction and make it to Vero, I can take cuttings of anything you want.

    Croton event ??

Hi Melanie, That was one that came from Hawaii as a small cutting. I did not label them when I put them in the garden, so don't know the names of most. That is one of my favorites and did not even color up until it had been in the ground for close to 2 years so thought it was just going to be...

    Croton event ??

I just found out Pix is not going to make it either. I still have Randy to take some of the cordylines and bromeliads. Hopefully someone else will be interested and the plants go to a good home. I will hold off on digging and taking cuttings of everything else so I don't end up with too many...

    Croton event ??

I went through a Sansevieria stage and have several unusual varieties scattered in dry locations in part sun to shade. I dug a bunch up to bring along. A few are Thai varieties and many are species or hybrids, not the typical ones. Below is what I dug up to bring.
