    Society Calendars

We have a new page for the Croton Society's calendars. Two calendars (2007, 2010) have been posted so far, with many more to come. This link has also been placed on the croton encyclopedia as well. http://www.palmpedia.net/wiki/THE_CROTON_SOCIETY_CALENDAR_PAGE WARNING: in viewing this...

    Keith Hanks's hybrids

Here's some more: by the way, the meeting was held in August, 2008

    Keith Hanks's hybrids

We had a Society meeting at Keith's place. Here are some photos...I wouldn't attempt to identify some of them:

    Overcast with color

The first photo, re: the croton on the right, closely resembles one I have. I showed a photo of it to Bob Alonzo and he thought it might be a relative of a Chief. What are you calling it?

    The Calendar's

We finally, after many false starts, have found a way to display the calendars with good reproduction. Ana has posted a cover on the wiki for you to see. Additional pages and calendars will follow.

    David McLean has passed away

I rember David from when he did an air layer demonstration at a Society meeting at Kurt Decker's nursery, many years ago.

    Keith Hanks's hybrids

Keith's fabulous collection has been well hydrated by other people drooling all over his plants.

    Croton Society Newsletters

Lee is going to send me his complete collection of newsletters on a DVD, minus the ones I already posted. We are also in the beginning stages of posting all of the Society calendars, which have gorgeous photos of individual plants, as well as croton garden landscapes.

    The Calendar's

I'll add the year to the Rudy photo & send it to your upload page. All of the others will have the year on them when I send them to you. I understand that this is an additional burden, but there's no time issue at all. It will take me quite some time to scan & send all 156 images to you. So...

    The Calendar's

The calandar image I experimented with was scanned, cropped to eliminate the white border, and made 50% smaller. But if we go forward with this, I have a question: for historical purposes, is it important to show the year on the 12 pages of a given calendar? If so, I can easily add that date to...

    The Calendar's

Bender's collection was incredible. Dr. Brown called it "the best collection of quality crotons anywhere." His shade house still had a lot of ferns, the last time I saw his yard. He had a prior interest in ferns before he got croton fever. Dean has created a site for the calendars, and after...

    The Codiaeum Connection

I've got to see if Lee has them in some digital format. I didn't have any part in the preparation of the calendars, just newsletters, so I'm not sure how they were created.

    Key's Magic

Great info Jerry. If only I could move my shabby collection to the Keys. Have you ever had a hurricane or tropical storm threaten your babies with a salt water flood? That's a constant concern for me because I'm at rather low elevation, very near the water (Tampa Bay). I've always understood...

    The Codiaeum Connection

More newsletter posting are on the link above...added yesterday. Lamar, my time to spend on this project is limited, but if you could check out the issues posted and see if you have any which are missing. If so, take then to your friend or Office Depot and have them scanned as a PDF. Take a...

    new garden!

Welcome to your new location. You, Phil & I are the only Croton denizans of the fair city of St. Petersburg, as far as I know. I'm also in a microclimate near the water. Yes, Florida soil leaves a lot to be desired, especially near the coast. Looks like you are on the right track. Good luck with...

    The Codiaeum Connection

Four more were added tonight (if I did it correctly). Thanks Dean for organizing the display. More issues to come...

    Croton Society Newsletters

Looks good, Dean. And I can do a "save as" in Publisher to convert a PDF newsletter into a JPEG, if necessary and if it would make things any easier. I think keeping the process simple as is with your arranging posts by date order is fine. No need to all the extra work and the $$ for the "very...

    Croton Society Newsletters

Thanks, Anna, and congratulations as well. Are you an "empty nest" mom now? I'll use Edric's instructions and see how it goes. It will be a slow process but it will be nice if we can reconstruct the Society's history through it's newsletters. The October 2002 issue that Lamar posted was my first...

Thanks guys. I appreciate your help. Will give it a go as soon as I can steal some time to work on the project.

    Croton Society Newsletters

I registered for the Wiki on the Palmpedia site, I think, ...looking for a confirmation. When you create the newsletter niche, let me know. Are the tutorials helpful, I'm not sure how to proceed. Perhaps Anna could provide some assistance? We're well within phone chatting distance (St...
